Physical Education Class (course levels 6th, 7th and 8th grades)
Course Description
Our primary goal in Sadler Means YWLA’s Physical Education Department is to educate all students in becoming lifelong learners of health and wellness. We do this through offering opportunities for participation in a range of activities that will aid in the development of behaviors that encourage and foster:
- healthy decision making;
- positive social skills;
- appropriate food choices; and
- continuous physical fitness - both inside and outside of the academic setting.
Course Objectives
Upon satisfactory completion of this course, students will be able to understand and demonstrate:
- the skills necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including proper nutrition and physical activity
- the implications of and the benefits from involvement in physical activities
- healthy habits including daily physical activity
- a fit, healthy, and positive mind, and the value and contribution of regular physical activity towards overall health
Athletics Class (course levels 7th and 8th grades)
Course Description
The Athletics course is designed to enable YWLA student-athletes the opportunity to develop and enhance their strength, speed, skills, and agility while preparing to participate in competitive sports, both in-season and off-season.
The purpose of this class is to increase the athletic ability and skill of each student-athlete while raising the competitiveness of YWLA’s athletic programs. Each student will participate in either an in-season workout or an off-season workout during this course. In addition, the Athletics class is an avenue for YWLA’s student-athletes to build unity, individual and team pride, comprehension of teamwork and sportsmanship, along with positive social behaviors.
Course Criteria

Every student must be a 7th or 8th grader that is actively participating in at least two athletic programs (volleyball, basketball, soccer, track & field, and/or tennis).

EVERY student must have a completed physical by a physician on file. No exceptions will be made.

A completed AISD Athlete Participation Packet is required.

You must maintain a minimum grade of 90% throughout each 6 weeks.

You are to have NO behavioral issues i.e. detentions, referrals, ISS, Harvest, Out of School Suspension, ALC, etc.

You must be in compliance with the class syllabus requirements at all times.

You must pass all classes with a minimum grade of a 70% in every class - NO PASS, NO PLAY!
