Tech Girls is a weekly after-school Girl Scout troop for middle school girls designed to increase awareness of the importance of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) in their education, careers and world. Tech Girls explore different aspects of STEM and have 'fun with a purpose' for inspiration and the celebration of scientific discovery in their lives.
Boneshaker Project is a local Austin 501(c)3, whose mission is to inspire kids to lead healthy, active lifestyles. Bertha Sadler Means YWLA welcomed the Boneshaker Project Run Club to its campus in 2016. Led by Coach Brittany Capps and Coach Audrey Dyer (both teachers at Sadler Means YWLA) the club has 50 young ladies enrolled. Meeting twice a week, students practice fitness drills, running techniques, and train for local races. The highlight of last year's season was when the girls ran the Cap10K and the Spartan Races. The program encourages kids to 'do what moves you', feel confident and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Boneshaker's supporters generously sponsor Sadler Means YWLA, so that the girls can participate at no cost to them.
Culture Club teaches our young ladies about etiquette while exposing them to many forms of performance art they might not have the opportunity to experience. In years past we have attended dress rehearsals of the Austin Opera. This school year we are expanding our focus and adding additional performances to include ballet and musicals!
